Among more than 3,900 examples recorded in PSA’s census reporting, just fifteen copies have been placed at a higher, unqualified tier. This cherished Clemente collectible was included in the difficult "High Number" segment of the 1955 Topps issue. Although the star outfielder's first season was not especially noteworthy, Clemente did earn his way into Pittsburgh's starting lineup, and he remained a fixture there until his untimely death. This example of his debut Topps card would be a highlight in any collection. The offered example exhibits a crisp rendering of Clemente's portrait and batting stance. His bold facsimile signature and the colorful Pirates' logo enhance the item's lovely aesthetic. Clemente's facial image is compelling in its perfectly focused presentation, and the cardfront's bright colors, in general, are second to none.
