Graded NM-MT+ 8.5 by PSA. Hall of Famer, in his Rookie Card appearance. Few cards have reached this level of grading tier for the 1955 Topps Roberto Clemente Rookie Card. Fewer than 0.3% percent have graded an 8.5 or better in PSA’s census report — with only three examples grading an 8.5 and making this a top-15 example of the card release.
This desirable Clemente collectible was included in the “high number” series of 1955 Topps Baseball, making it more difficult to obtain. Clemente is well regarded for his great baseball skills — having amassed exactly 3,000 hits before his life was tragically cut short — but also for his character and being a great humanitarian.
This collectible is an indelible example of the heroic figure's debut Topps card and would be an indisputable highlight in any collection. It’s well-centered, has clean lines with strong colors. The corners form impeccable right angles that meet after strong clean edges. This is the only PSA 8.5 example with clear green registration and shows no print marks on the upper left corner. 1955 Topps Baseball is a favorite amongst collectors as it features Clemente’s portrait shot next to the Pittsburgh Pirates great in his batting stance. A facsimile signature rounds out the card’s front design. The reverse of the card features bright, bold colors on grey card stock. A fascinating find in Near Mint to Mint Plus condition.
