September 30, 1956 seemed like it would be an ordinary game for the Brooklyn Dodgers. It was the last game of the regular season, an 8-6 victory over the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates. With that win, the Dodgers clinched a 93-61 regular season record and a spot in the World Series against their fierce rivals, the cross-town Yankees.

Little did anyone know the September 30th game would be the last in Jackie Robinson’s Hall of Fame career. In the offseason Jackie was traded to the Dodger’s rival the New York Giants, but instead of reporting to his new team, Robinson decided he’d rather retire. This ticket stub is in fine condition, with almost no wear showing.
