Graded MINT 9 by PSA. Hall of Famer. Among a total of more than 7,800 copies recorded in PSA's census reporting, just four examples have achieved a higher tier. Every serious baseball card collection should include a top-quality 1956 Topps Mantle, but almost none can claim bragging rights to a Mint copy. Mickey Mantle turned in one of the finest-ever single season performances by any player in 1956, winning the Triple Crown and the American League MVP Award. He carried his Yankees to the World Championship, thus denying the Brooklyn Dodgers back-to-back honors. Mantle's homers in World Series Games 1, 4 and 5 single-handedly crushed Dodger hopes. Certainly, Don Larsen would attest to Mantle's greatness, and Larsen's perfect Game 5 performance was made easier by Mantle's game-winning solo home run. The offered card does indeed reflect superb Mint condition. It is amazingly free of any of the print defects which are so common in the issue. Mantle's portrait countenance beams at the right, and the fleet-footed flyer soars into the stands on the left. The fantastic graphics delight the eye, and a study in opposites is presented by the intensity of the field action balanced by the youthful exuberance of his portrait. Condition attributes need no embellishment other than the restatement of the phrase "MINT 9." The corners are effectively pristine, and the card's coloration and projection qualities are spectacular. An exceptional example of one of Mantle's most beautiful baseball cards, in true Mint condition.
