Washington Senators pitcher Ted Abernathy wore this gray flannel Senators uniform during the 1957 MLB season. Bouncing between the bullpen and the starting rotation, the 24-year old Abernathy won two games and made 26 appearances, pitching 85.0 innings with 50 strikeouts. The 6’4” Abernathy became one of the best closers in the National League in his 30’s, leading the Senior Circuit in saves twice and appearances three times. Abernathy retired after the 1972 season having won 63 games with a 3.46 ERA.

Included in this lot are Abernathy’s gray zipper-front flannel road jersey, gray flannel road pants, and navy stirrups from the 1957 season. The jersey features “WASHINGTON” sewn across the chest in navy and red tackle twill. Abernathy’s number “15” is sewn on the back of the jersey in navy and red tackle twill. An “Abernathy 57” tag is sewn on the back inside collar. “Abernathy Set 1 57” is hand chain-stitched on the front left tail below a Spalding size “44” tag. The gray flannel pants feature an “Abernathy 15” tag, a Spalding size “38” tag, and a washing instructions tag are sewn on the back inside waistband. The stirrups in this lot are navy with red and white stripes. The uniform comes with a LOA from Sports Investors Authentication.
