Each card has been graded by PSA. Presented is an 88-card complete set of Topps "Hit Stars" non-sports cards issued in 1957. With its 8.00 GPA, this assembly merits "#3 Current Finest" placement on the PSA Set Registry! In 1957, the Topps Company realized that not all American heroes and idols were to be found on the playing fields or in the sporting arenas. The recording industry was booming from the development of the 45 RPM disc, and Rock & Roll and television were coming into their own as primary sources of entertainment. Add to this mix the post-war crop of young movie stars, and conditions were just right for a collection of cards featuring entertainment idols. Topps took advantage of the nation's mood and introduced the Hit Stars series to showcase movie, TV and recording stars in full-color photographic images. Most of the set's subjects appeared on their "rookie cards" in Hit Stars: personalities depicted include Liz Taylor, James Dean (4 cards), Elvis, The Crickets (featuring Buddy Holly), Nat Cole, and even Alan Freed (credited with coining the phrase "Rock & Roll").
