In 1958, the New York Yankees were keen to resign their Hall of Fame manager Casey Stengel after “The Old Perfesser” led the Bronx Bombers to their seventh World Series title since 1959. The Yankees won a seven game series ending on October 9th, and by the 15th Stengel agreed to manage the club for another two seasons. Signing for the princely sum of $75,000 per year, Stengel led the team to two winning records and the 1960 American League pennant before he left the team after the 1960 playoffs, which ended via Bill Mazeroski’s heartbreaking home run.

This contract, typed on muted yellow paper, has been signed in black pen by Stengel and Yankees GM George Weiss. Stengel signed his full name, “Charles D. Stengel”, and added his Glendale, California address below his signature. Weiss and Stengel would work together again as the manager and general manager of the New York Mets during the first several years of the team’s existence. This contract is accompanied by a LOA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication (A81809).
