Offered here is Gil Hodges’ signed Uniform Player’s Contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers for the 1959 MLB season. Hodges, in his 14th season as a Major Leaguer, put together a tremendous season as the Dodgers starting first baseman. Hodges hit 25 homers, with 80 RBI and a .276 batting average, as the Dodgers claimed the National League flag by a two-game margin over the Milwaukee Braves. Despite an 11-0 loss the Chicago White Sox in the first game of the World Series, Hodges and the Dodgers turned the tide of the Fall Classic to win the franchise’s second World Series title in six games. Hodges hit .391 in the World Series, collecting nine hits in the six games.

This offered contract is for a salary of $42,000, and it comes with a typed letter from Dodgers General Manager Buzzie Bavasi to Hodges. The typed letter reads “Dear Gil: Here is your contract. I don’t care whether or not you sign it. Very truly yours, E.J. Bavasi Vice President” and “P.S. See you in New York”. Hodges, despite Bavasi’s claimed ambivalence, has signed the contract in blue pen with his full name of “Gilbert Ray Hodges”. The contract has also been signed by Bavasi in blue pen. This contract comes with a LOA from JSA (Z67466).
