Linebacker Matt Hazeltine spent 14 seasons with the historic Bay Area franchise. A two-time Pro Bowler, and esteemed member of the College Football Hall of Fame, the Cal Bears alum wore this great gamer during the 1959 season in San Francisco. He had three fumble recoveries in 12 games starting for the San Francisco 49ers during the 1959 season. In his honor, the Matt Hazeltine "Iron Man" Award was established in 1987 by head coach Bill Walsh of the 49ers, and is presented to the most courageous and inspirational defensive player each season. Hazeltine wore this red Dureen home jersey during the 1959 season. Hazeltine’s number “55” is sewn on the front, back and shoulders in white tackle twill. This jersey was manufactured by "Wilson" and has ¾ length sleeves with elbow stitching and three white stripes on each sleeve. The proper "Wilson" tag is sewn on the bottom front left tail and this jersey displays light to moderate game use. This is one of few 49ers jerseys from the late 50's ever to surface in the hobby. Hazeltine has signed his name in faded black marker on the upper right chest and inscribed "To Marty, Best In Sports" and "SF 49ers". This jersey comes with a LOA from Sports Investors Authentication for the game use and a LOA from Beckett Authentication for the signature.
