The legendary jockey Bill Hartack was inducted into the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame in Saratoga Springs, New York, in 1959 at the age of 26. Hartack was one of America’s premier thoroughbred jockeys, winning five Kentucky Derby titles, three Preakness Stakes titles, and the 1960 Belmont Stakes. Hartack was a national celebrity, appearing twice on the cover of Sports Illustrated and gracing the cover of Time magazine in 1958.
Offered here is Hartack’s 1959 National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame induction plaque. Hartack’s full name of “William J. Hartack” and the Racing Hall of Fame logo are etched in high relief on the top of this plaque. The plaque measures 17 x 12.5 inches. Remnants of an adhesive are present on the upper corner of this plaque, but otherwise the plaque is in very good condition.
