Thanks to his disreputable biographer Al Stump, the common perception of Ty Cobb in retirement was of a bitter and despised man. Recent scholarship has shown that Cobb was in fact a very popular ex-ballplayer who went out of his way to accommodate the many fans who asked for his autograph. Case-in-point is this stunningly perfect inscribed single-signed ball.
Cobb has signed this Hutch Official League ball on one panel in his customary green ink pen. The ball is inscribed “To Robert From Ty Cobb 12/18/59”. The ball shows light toning and has been coated with shellack. A hole has been drilled in the panel beneath Cobb’s signature for mounting. A very attractive and dated ball from one of the game’s most iconic players that comes with a full LOA from PSA/DNA (T03208) for the signature.
