An approximately 5” x 14” cut piece of netting from the United States Olympic Team’s win over Brazil that clinched the Gold medal. That victory gave the USA 3 wins and no defeats to triumph over the Soviet Union who had a final record of 2 wins and 1 loss in the final round. The team that represented the United States at the 1960 Summer Games in Rome could be called a “Dream Team of the Future” as 10 of the 12 players went on to play in the NBA. Four of those 10 were eventually enshrined in the Basketball Hall of Fame: Jerry West, Oscar Robertson, Jerry Lucas and Walt Bellamy - from who this unique piece of Olympic history comes from. The off-white colored netting was cut from the basketball rim by Team USA starting center Walt Bellamy in Rome, Italy celebrating the USA winning the Gold Medal. What we recognize as the celebratory net cutting that every championship team does. The netting shows nice aging and comes with a letter picturing the netting and signed by Walt Bellamy.
