When the Yankees came back to New York after the 1960 Spring Training, the team’s long time captain and respected vet, Yogi Berra was singled out to receive the Paul Krichell Award. Krichell was the Yankees long time “super scout” who was almost single handedly responsible for more than a dozen pennant winning teams. Krichell was a long time resident of the Bronx, and this award was given to players who, like the old scout, contributed to the community around Yankee Stadium. This silver plated award measures 12 ¼ inch in diameter and one inch in depth and reads “Paul Krichell Memorial Award Presented to Lawrence “Yogi” Berra for Outstanding Services to Baseball, The Yankees and the Community by the Citizens of the Bronx at the Welcome Home Yankees Dinner Concourse Plaza Hotel April 22, 1960”. The plate shows good wear from age and use with shallow scuffing on the surface, but this does not affect the legibility of the inscription. The plate comes with a full LOA from Steiner for its Yogi Berra Estate provenance.
