While former Boston Red Sox icon Johnny Pesky was not a prodigious home run hitter – hitting only 17 career home runs, Pesky was a terrific contact hitter, finishing his career with a lofty .307 batting average. Six of his 17 career home runs came at venerable Fenway Park, most of them wrapping around the short right field pole, which was dubbed “Pesky’s Pole”. After his playing days were over, Pesky began his managerial career with stints in the New York Yankees and Detroit Tigers organizations from 1955-1960. Pesky returned to the Red Sox in 1961 as manager for their Triple-A team the Seattle Rainiers of the Pacific Coast League. Pesky would be appointed Red Sox manager in 1963. This offered Hillerich & Bradsby L16 model bat was used by Pesky during the 1961-63 seasons when he was with the Red Sox in a coaching capacity. This bat displays light use and is un-cracked. The model number “L16” is stamped on the knob. This bat comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (1B13694) and a Letter of Provenance from Conrad Schmidt, the son of former NHL player Milt Schmidt, who attests that this bat was gifted to his father by Johnny Pesky.
