Graded NM-MT 8 by PSA. Hall of Famer. Among more than 1,100 copies recorded in PSA’s census reporting, fewer than three percent have attained a higher, unqualified tier. The 1961-62 Fleer basketball set, often criticized for uncertainty in its centering, receives far too little praise for its positive attributes. Beyond containing a fabulous gallery of superstars and rookies, the series features cards that put forth tremendous gloss and color, and their presence in high grade truly enlivens a collection. The offered prize, depicting hardcourt legend Bill Russell, is a splendid collectible from its sought-after issue. This is an early memento of a great player who appeared on very few cards. Its condition is highly laudable, especially in consideration of the typically crudely cut product from which it hails. The card possesses sharp corners, bright color graphics and a crisp black-and-white image of the young Russell. This is a standout specimen of a very popular player's second gum card portrayal, in Near Mint to Mint condition.
