The late legendary pitcher Tom Seaver turned around a fledgling New York Mets franchise and was the catalyst for the team’s 1969 World Series victory. Upon his entry into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1992, Seaver would garner the highest ever voting percentage (98.84%) until Ken Griffey, Jr. (99.32%) in 2016, Derek Jeter in 2020 (99.74%) and Mariano Rivera in 2019 (100%). Seaver grew up in California and was a member of his high school baseball team at Fresno High School, where he developed his control due to his lack of size at that time. It would earn him a look at USC, where he would eventually earn a scholarship for his sophomore year and the rest, as they say, is history. Presented here is one of the caps worn by Seaver when he was a member of the Fresno High School Baseball team. This dark blue 6-panel pre-shrunk cap is made of wool and has a leather headband and has the Fresno High School logo “F” in red and white on the front. Made by New Era, the cap’s tagging is consistent for the early 1960’s era has the company label and flag tag for size on the rear of the headband. Please note that the size tag is frayed the printed size is no longer visible. The cap displays excellent use with a fair amount of perspiration stains and fading on the bill. This comes with a LOA from J.T. Sports (1462) for the game use and references a “note from the owner, who states the cap is one of three given to here by “My Friend. Tom Seaver”. Team photos of the Fresno High School Baseball Team confirm the style was worn by team member Tom Seaver.” Please note that a copy of the note and pictures referenced in the J.T. Sports LOA will be included with this lot.
