The 1961 Yankees were a force of nature, winning 109 regular season games behind the slugging prowess of the “M&M Boys”, Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris. The two sluggers battled each other all season in an attempt to break Babe Ruth’s single season home run record. In the end, it was the defending American League MVP Maris that overthrew the Babe, hitting 61 home runs to Mantle’s 54. Along with 25 game-winning pitcher Whitey Ford, these Yankees finished first in the American League by eight games over the Detroit Tigers. The Yankees faced the Cincinnati Reds in the World Series, eager to avenge their previous season’s loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Yankees easily swept aside the Reds, winning the World Series in a quick five games.

This Bobby Brown Official American League baseball was signed at a reunion of the 1961 team. Hall of Famers Mickey Mantle, Whitey Ford, and Yogi Berra signed this baseball, with Ford, Mantle, and manager Ralph Houk signing the sweet spot. Other signatures include Bob Turley, Bob Cerv, Tom Tresh, Al Downing, Ralph Terry, Moose Skowron, Johnny Sain, Ryne Duren, Bill Stafford, Art Ditmar, Luis Arroyo, Clete Boyer, Jack Reed, Rollie Sheldon, Hector Lopez, Johnny Blanchard, Hal Reniff, Earl Torgeson, Bud Daley, Bob Hale, Jim Coates, Joe DeMaestri, Tex Clevenger, and Jesse Gonder. The signatures have been written in black pen. This item comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (AC03362).
