They were comprised of power and pitching, getting 115 combined home runs from Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris, and 25 wins from Cy Young award winner Whitey Ford. They rolled over the Cincinnati Reds in five games to win their fourth World Series championship in six seasons.
This approximately 8” x 10” original team photo has been signed by 26 members of this championship squad, with many vintage signatures. Instruments include ink and felt tip marker, plus a few sharpies. Each player has signed over their images, except Mantle and Hector Lopez who signed below with Mantle’s bold, blue sharpie signature rates a perfect (“10/10”). Includes: Mickey Mantle, Bobby Richardson, Al Downing, John Blanchard, Bill Stafford, Rollie Sheldon, Bud Daley, Bill Gardner, Joe DeMaestri, Tony Kubek, Bob Cerv, Roger Maris, Bob Turley, Whitey Ford, Bill Skowron, Hal Reniff, Jim Hegan, Frank Crosetti, Ralph Houk, John Sain, Wally Moses, Earl Torgeson, Yogi Berra and Hector Lopez. The Elston Howard signature has been deemed a clubhouse version. Signatures range in grades from (“7-10”), with a handful of ink signatures much lighter. Virtually all the team photos from this record breaking year in circulation are missing Maris, so to find a complete signed photo is quite rare. The photo comes with a blue and black border acting as a frame, and this border contains pinholes where it was likely fastened to a wall. Photograph is accompanied by an LOA from PSA/DNA (AA05801).
