1961 was a heck of a year to be a Yankees fan. The team redeemed themselves after losing the 1960 World Series to Pittsburgh, sweeping the Cincinnati Reds in four straight. Along the way Mantle and Maris battled it out for not only the AL home run title, but for the game’s most hallowed record - Babe Ruth’s single season home run mark of 60. While Mantle was the favorite to take the title, it was Roger Maris who methodically cranked out homer after homer, eventually surpassing the Babe in the waning days of the season.

This presentation humidor not only commemorates the Yankees reclaiming the title of World Champions, but also marks Roger Maris’ incredible home run record. Presented to the new Home Run King after the World Series, the sterling silver plated humidor measures 7 x 10 x 3 ¼ inches. The domed lid has a golden enameled Yankees bat and hat logo surrounded by “NEW YORK YANKEES WORLD CHAMPIONS 1961” in rated letters. Below “ROGER MARIS 61 IN 61” has been engraved. The inside is paneled in wood and the inside lid has the signatures of all the members of the 1961 team. The humidor shows the expected light tarnishing from age as well as minor scuffing and abrasions through use. The Yankees medallion on the lid looks to have been reattached at some time, and there is some light glue residue present. A very impressive piece that honors not only Maris’ record breaking 1961 season but also the Yankees subsequent World Series Championship.
