Hall of Fame center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was presented with this Power Memorial Academy Honor Society certificate in 1962. Abdul-Jabbar, who was known then as Lew Alcindor, was an excellent student, as well as an all-world basketball player - graduating from the University of California, Los Angeles in four years with a degree in history. This certificate, which measures 12 x 9.5 inches, is printed with “Certificate of Award / This Certifies That / Lewis Alcindor / Has Been Awarded Membership In / The Rev. Brother E. A. Ryall Honor Society / of / Power Memorial Academy”. “Lewis Alcindor” was handwritten in black pen. A teacher at Power and the principal of the school have signed this certificate. A Power Memorial Academy seal is attached to the bottom right-hand corner of this certificate. This item derives directly from Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and a personally hand-signed LOA from Kareem will accompany this item.
