Hall of Fame center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was awarded this La Salle Alumni Basketball Festival Outstanding Player trophy in 1963, during his junior season at Power Memorial Academy. Abdul-Jabbar was one of the best high school basketball players in history, winning two Mr. Basketball USA trophies in his high school career. With Kareem, then known as Lew Alcindor, guarding the paint, Power won 71 consecutive games and three straight New York City Catholic Championships during his time there. This irregularly shaped trophy measures 8.5 x 4 inches and 10 inches high at its widest and tallest dimensions. Two statuettes, a friar and a basketball player, adorn this trophy. A plaque on the trophy reads “Outstanding Player / La Salle Alumni / Basketball Festival / 1963”. This item derives directly from Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and a personally hand-signed LOA from Kareem will accompany this item.
