Presented here is an original flyer from the March on Washington, one of the seminal moments of the Civil Rights movement. Held on August 28, 1963, the March on Washington was attended by over 200,000 activists and protestors, and featured a litany of speeches by some of the greatest orators in American history. It was here that Martin Luther King gave his “I Have a Dream Speech” on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.
The March on Washington, which was primarily organized by Bayard Rustin and A. Phillip Randolph, led to sweeping Civil Rights reforms, and was instrumental in the passing of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
This flyer measures 5 ½ x 8 ½ inches and features the names of many heroes of the Civil Rights movement, including Martin Luther King, John Lewis, Roy Wilkins, Bayard Rustin, and more. This item comes with a LOA from University Archives.
