"The Amazing Spider-Man" #1 (March 1963) - CGC Universal Grade 7.5 (story by Stan Lee, cover and art by Steve Ditko; Spider-Man origin retold, 1st appearance of Jonah Jameson & Chameleon, 1st Fantastic Four crossover.) In 1962, with the success of the Fantastic Four, Stan Lee was looking for a new superhero idea. Due to a surge in teenage demand for comic books, he hoped to create a character with whom teens could identify. Thus, Spider-Man was born. Marvel publisher Martin Goodman agreed to try out the character in the final issue of the "Amazing Fantasy" series. A few months later, Goodman reviewed the sales figures for the issue and was shocked to find it was one of Marvel's highest-selling comics. The ongoing series "The Amazing Spider-Man" followed, eventually becoming Marvel's top-selling series and with the character quickly becoming a cultural icon. This first issue from the series displays a vibrant cover and with a grade of 7.5 from CGC, can be the pinnacle of one's Spider-Man collection.
