Kansas City Athletics infielder Sammy Esposito wore this gold A’s uniform (vest and pants) during the 1963 MLB season. Esposito joined the A’s in May of 1963 as a free agent, playing in 18 games with the team before his release in the 1963 offseason. This was Esposito’s final year in the Major Leagues after spending parts of 10 seasons with the Chicago White Sox. This offered gold jersey vest is a button-down, with an “A” and Esposito’s number “1” sewn on the chest in green and white tackle twill. “SAM” and a second “1” are sewn on the back of the jersey in the same fashion. Please note that the “A” and “SAM” have been professionally restored. There is evidence of a number “36” being removed from the chest and back, while the remnants of a “B” patch are located below the “A” on the chest. The Burlington Bees were a farm team of the Kansas City/Oakland Athletics from 1963 to 1974. Numerous team repairs are present on the chest and back. A Wilson size “40” tag and a “Set 1 – 63 no. 1” swatch are sewn on the front left tail.

The pants included in this lot are gold as well, with a white-green-white stripe running down each leg. The pants have a three-button front and a Wilson size “32” tag sewn on the front inside waistband next to a “63 no. 1” swatch. Written on the inside of the pants in black marker is “Ocken”, referring to 1967 Burlington Bees pitcher Bruce Ocken, and “Fred Velazquez”, a member of the Bees in 1965 who played in the Majors in 1969 for the Seattle Pilots and in 1973 for the Atlanta Braves. The pants also exhibit several team repairs. This item comes with a LOA from Sports Investors Authentication (190621F1) for the game use.
