In 1963 Yogi Berra began the last season of his career as a player. The wildly popular Yankees catcher was about to make the transition from player to manager and the Houston sports writers wanted to commemorate a career that included 18 All-Star appearances and 10 World Championships. The sterling silver plated bowl measures 12 inches in diameter and is 6 inches tall and reads “Tris Speaker Award to Yogi Berra for Outstanding Achievement in Baseball Over A Number of Years Jan. 22, 1963 Houston, Texas B.B.W.A.A.” and is engraved on the front of the piece. The plate shows good wear from age and use with scuffing on the surface, particularly on the interior of the bowl, but this does not affect the legibility of the inscription nor the display quality. The bowl comes with a full LOA from Steiner for its Yogi Berra Estate provenance.
