As one of the most influential rock bands of all-time, the lads from Liverpool, the Beatles ushered in a new era of music in the 1960s. Led by the charismatic front men John Lennon and Paul McCartney, along with George Harrison and Ringo Starr, the “Fab Four” created memorable songs like “I Want To Hold Your Hand”, “Yesterday”, “Strawberry Fields Forever”, “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band”, “Hey Jude”, “Let It Be” and many others.
Offered is this 14 x 15 ½ inch framed display that has a signed photograph of all four Beatles. Signed on verso, this black and white photograph is 5 ¼ x 3 ½ inches. The Topstar promotional photograph was taken in 1963 and is uniformly creased on the photo side and captioned “The Beatles”. According to the historical experts at University Archives, a woman named Jacqueline Gregg had sent this photograph to J.D. Clark, the General Manager of the Odeon Theatre in Leeds, England. Included in this display is the typed letter signed “J.D. Clark” and measures 6 x 8 inches. The leader reads “Dear Jacqueline, Thank you for your letter dated 20th November. I have no idea when the Beatles will be here again, but we shall not be permitting any backstage visitors. All we can do is offer to try to obtain autographs for you.”
The Beatles did return to the Odeon in Leeds on October 22, 1954 and it was their last performance at that venue. Included with this display is a 2 ½ x 2 ½ inch ticket stub for the “1st Performance 6-0 p.m./Thursday October 22/Centre Circle”. The four legends signed the back of the photograph provided by Miss Gregg in blue pen. The crease of the photograph does run through the “s” in Harrison and the “h” in John (Lennon), but does not detract from the quality of the signatures. This historic musical piece comes with a full LOA from University Archives and a full LOA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication (A04481).
