The Hall of Fame center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was presented with this John Norton Memorial Award for making the 1965 All-CHSAA Tournament basketball team. Abdul-Jabbar, then known as Lew Alcindor, was the UCLA-bound star for Power Memorial High School, leading Power on a 71-game winning streak and winning three-straight CHSAA titles. 1965 was Abdul-Jabbar’s senior season, and that iteration of the Power squad is widely regarded as one of the best prep teams of the 20th century. This offered trophy shows a gold basketball atop a circular base. The base measures 3.5 inches in diameter and stands approximately 5 inches tall. Etched on the award is “John Norton Memorial Award / All CHSAA Tournament Team 1965”. Please note that the gold foil around the basketball is chipping slightly. This trophy originates from the personal collection of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and it is accompanied by a LOA signed by Kareem.
