The Hall of Famer Nellie Fox ended his playing career in Major League Baseball by spending two seasons with the Houston Astros, in 1964 and 1965. After retiring, Fox joined the Astros coaching staff from 1965 through 1967. During his career, Fox was a decorated player, making 15 All-Star teams and winning the 1959 American League MVP award as a member of the famous “Go Go” White Sox. Fox was one of the hardest batters to strike out in Major League history, whiffing only 216 times in 10,351 plate appearances. Offered here is Fox’s contract with the Houston Astros for his coaching position during the 1967 season. Fox was paid $13,000 for a season of his services, and he signed the contract on September 26th, 1966, a week before the 1966 campaign ended. Fox signed the contract as “J. Nelson Fox”, while Astros executive Harold Beland “Spec” Richardson has also signed the contract. Both signatures have been written in blue pen. This contract comes with a LOA from JSA (Z67467).
