Widely regarded as one of America’s true folk heroes, Cesar Chavez was a pioneer for the rights of Latino Americans and farm workers. Chavez founded the National Farm Workers Association (NFWA), an organization that protected the rights of farm workers and eventually joined the AFL-CIO. Along with Dolores Huerta, Chavez gave purpose and a vision to the NFWA and its 50,000 members. The item offered here is Chavez’s membership card to the NFWA. This 3.5x2.5 inch card is from the year 1966, when the NFWA was in its fourth year as a dues paying organization. Chavez signed the back of this card in blue ballpoint pen. This item comes with a University Archives LOA.
