Offered here is a New York Mets Sixth Annual Old Timers Game trophy presented to Robert “Red” Rolfe in 1967. Rolfe, a lifelong Yankee, played 10 seasons in the Majors, winning five World Series and earning four All-Star selections. Rolfe’s best season came in 1939, when the New Hampshire native hit a career-best .329 and led baseball in runs (139) and hits (213). Rolfe was always a reliable performer in the postseason, hitting .284 with six RBI across his six World Series appearances. Rolfe retired after the 1942 season before joining the Detroit Tigers as their manager in 1949. Red managed the Tigers for three and a half seasons, holding down a career .521 winning percentage as the Detroit skipper.

This trophy was presented to Rolfe on July 8th, 1967, two years to the day before his untimely death in 1969 at the age of 60. This trophy measures approximately 10 inches high and 8.5 inches wide at its widest dimensions. “6th Annual Old Timers Game Shea Stadium” and “Red Rolfe July 8, 1967” are etched on this trophy. A raised Mets logo is applied to this trophy between the two engravings. A free-standing insert fits into the mouth of this trophy. This is a tremendous relic from the life of one of the Yankees most underrated stars.
