Hall of Fame center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was awarded this 1966-67 Irv Pohlmeyer Memorial Trophy as the best first-year player on the UCLA varsity basketball team. Abdul-Jabbar, known then as Lew Alcindor, was forced to play for the junior varsity squad as a freshman due to NCAA regulations, averaged 29 points and 15.5 rebounds per game as UCLA went a perfect 30-0, claiming the NCAA title with a win over Dayton in the championship game. This trophy measures 21 inches tall, with a 4.25 x 4.25-inch base. “The Irv Pohlmeyer Memorial Trophy / Outstanding First Year Varsity Player / 1967” is etched on the trophy, while “Awarded to Lewis Alcindor” is etched on a sliding plaque located on the base. This item derives directly from Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and a personally hand-signed LOA from Kareem will accompany this item.
