In an effort to distance themselves from decades worth of losing seasons, A’s owner Charlie Finley abandoned their traditional blue in 1963 and clad his boys in vibrant “Kelly Green” and “Fort Knox Gold”. The shedding of their former history and sharp front office moves began the A’s steady rise out of the second division. Along with fellow rookie Reggie Jackson, infielder Ted Kubiak was one of the youngsters brought up to begin the A’s climb up the AL standings. The 24 year-old wore this sleeveless flannel jersey during his 1967 rookie season, the last season the A’s played in Kansas City before relocating to Oakland. The front features the Fort Knox gold and Kelly green A’s logo and Kubiak’s number “14”. Back has “14” in A’s the same vibrant gold and green. The numbers have some fraying and part of the “1” has come undone, but is still held fast by the remaining stitching. The classic white flannel vest shows moderate game use. The gold and green trip around the sleeves and collar is frayed in places with some loose threads as would be expected from a 46 year-old flannel. Colors are resplendent and the body of the jersey shows no repairs or tears. There is a light pine tar stain beside the gold and green trim on the left shoulder. The lower right front tail has the McAuliffe label with added “67” and size “40” tags. An important piece of A’s history as this was the last year the team played in Kansas City and one of the few game used jersey dating from their short residency there. This jersey comes with a full letter of authenticity from game worn jersey expert Dave Miedema.
