New York Yankees catcher Thurman Munson was awarded this 1967 Cape Cod League Batting Champion trophy after leading the league with a sky-high .420 batting average. Munson played for the Chatham A’s in 1967, leading them to their first ever league title in the prestigious collegiate league. Munson, at the time a Kent State Golden Flash, would be selected with the fourth overall pick in the 1968 MLB Draft by the Yankees. Today, the Cape Cod League batting champion is presented with the “Thurman Munson Batting Award” at the end of every season.
This trophy, presented by Schaefer Beer, measures approximately 16.5 inches tall and stands on a 4.25 x 4.25 inch plinth. A detachable plaque reads “1967 Batting Champion Cape Cod League” with an engraved Schaefer Beer logo. This trophy is topped by a silver batter. Please note that the bat is not attached to the trophy, but will be included with this item. This trophy comes with a LOA from the Munson family.
