When Yogi Berra was unceremoniously let go as the Yankees manager after the 1964 World Series, the fledgling New York Mets immediately snatched up the popular catcher. Though primarily hired as a coach, Yogi couldn’t help but play a few games at his old position, showing the young Mets how a pro does it. It was Yogi’s veteran knowledge that in part helped turn the Mets into the team that won the 1969 World Series, and when manager Gil Hodges passed away during 1972 spring training, Yogi was the obvious choice to succeed him as skipper.

These white pinstripe pants date from Yogi’s 1967 season when he was busy molding the Mets into the team that would win the 1969 World Series. The flannel pants show good game use with light toning throughout. There is some faded staining in the knee area. The pinstripes show fading from repeated laundering and there is some staining to the rear belt loops. Both rear pocket buttons are present, the elastic in the leg openings are intact, and there does not appear to be any tears or rips in the flannel. The inside waistband has the Spalding label with “SET 1” hang tag. A white strip tag has “36 24 67 8” in blue chain stitching and Berra’s number “8” in black marker. “Berra” has been hand written besides his number in blue pen. To top off this piece of Mets history, the Hall of Famer has signed the front of the pants in blue marker adding “N.Y. Mets 67”. The pants come with a full LOA from MEARS for the game use and PSA/DNA (AC03343) for the signature.
