After spending his formative years holding down first base for the Red Sox, Cecil Cooper moved west to Milwaukee in 1977. The change of scenery invigorated him and he hit .300 or higher for the next seven seasons. He led the American League in RBI in both 1980 and 1983 and was voted on to five All-Star teams and his 219 base hits in 1980 is still the franchise record.

His play around first base earned him two Gold Glove Awards, and by the looks of this Cooper game used glove, he surely deserved it. This SSK pro model first baseman’s mitt shows great game use. The webbing has been repaired with a spiral of adhesive tape reattaching two laces. Some of the lacing has broken free and the end piece held with tape. The pocked displayed awesome game use with the leather very well worn and scuffed and parts of the leather slightly torn. One of the two manufacturer’s labels have been removed and the remaining one is frayed but intact. The fleece lined wrist strap is worn and shows perspiration staining and the heel of the interior displays turf and perspiration staining. This is about as “game used” as it gets - a real “been there” Major League first baseman’s mitt. Coop has signed the outside of the thumb in blue marker adding his number “5” and “game used”. This glove comes with a signed letter of authenticity from Cecil Cooper.
