Hall of Fame center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, known then as Lew Alcindor, was awarded this commemorative plaque from the City of Los Angeles in recognition of his contributions to the 1967-68 University of California-Los Angeles Bruins. Abdul-Jabbar, a junior, led UCLA to the second of their three straight national titles in 1968, defeating the University of North Carolina in the title game to cap off a 29-1 season. This plaque measures 17 x 12 inches. A raised City of Los Angeles crest, measuring 9 inches in diameter, is affixed to the plaque. A smaller metal plaque reads “To: Lew Alcindor / For Your Contribution In Making The 1967-68 UCLA Basketball The Finest College Team In The Nation / From: Sam Yorty / Mayor Of The City Of Los Angeles / April 3, 1968”. This item derives directly from Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and a personally hand-signed LOA from Kareem will accompany this item.
