Oakland Athletics coach John McNamara wore this A’s home jersey vest during the 1968 season. McNamara, a career minor leaguer, coached for the A’s in 1968 before taking the reins as manager in 1969 and 1970. McNamara went on to manage the Padres, Reds, Angels, Red Sox, and Indians, most famously leading the Red Sox to the 1986 American League pennant.
This flannel vest has “OAKLAND” sewn across the chest in green and yellow lettering. McNamara’s number “41” is sewn on the back of the jersey in green and yellow tackle twill. Green and yellow piping accents the shoulders and collar. “’68”, size “42”, and McAuliffe tags are sewn on the front left tail. Each armpit features three elastic bands for greater maneuverability and breathability. This jersey shows moderate wear and comes with a LOA from MEARS, who have graded it a perfect A10.
