Hall of Fame center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was presented with this 1968 UCLA Most Valuable Player desk set after his second year for John Wooden’s varsity Bruins team. Abdul-Jabbar, then known as Lew Alcindor, was the best player in college basketball, leading UCLA to three NCAA titles in his three collegiate seasons. In each of these seasons, Abdul-Jabbar won the Final Four Most Outstanding Player award. In 1967-68, Abdul-Jabbar averaged 26.2 points and 16.5 rebounds per game as he continued to build on his outstanding legacy. This desk set sits on a 12 x 7-inch base pedestal. A Linden Cordless Electric alarm clock and a 7.5-inch tall statuette of a basketball player are affixed to the base. Two pen holders (without pens) are located between the clock and the statuette. A plaque on this desk set reads “UCLA / Most Valuable Player / 1968 / Lewis Alcindor”. This item derives directly from Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and a personally hand-signed LOA from Kareem will accompany this item.
