In “the year of the pitcher,” the 1968 World Series is best remembered for Detroit Tiger’s hefty hurler Mickey Lolich earning three Series victories and outdueling St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Fame fire-baller Bob Gibson in the Game Seven clincher.

This classy and understated size 11, 10K gold Balfour ring weighs 33.7 grams and was issued to umpire Tom Gorman who worked home plate in Lolich’s nine-inning, five-hit, series-clinching gem, and contains a large 60 point diamond at its center on top of an engraved infield diamond encircled by raised “World Series” and “1968 Umpire” lettering. One shank features an engraving of a home plate umpire making an “out” call with “Detroit” and “Tigers” banners above and below, while the opposite side has “St. Louis” and “Cardinals” banners running across the engraved images of a pair of bats, a ball and glove. Tom Gorman’s name is cursively engraved on the interior band and the ring remains in very good if not near mint condition and comes with an LOA signed by its former owner.
