The Hall of Fame slugger Reggie Jackson wore this gray Oakland Athletics button-down vest during the 1969 and 1970 seasons. This flannel jersey has been photo matched to Reggie Jackson's 1970 Topps #140 card by both Sports Investors Authentication and Resolution Photomatching. Two other Topps Cards (Topps #459 and Topps Super 28) are likely matches. In addition to being photo matched to three of Reggie's Topps cards, the jersey has also been photo matched to the June 15th game in which Jackson hit Career Home Run number 53, his 23rd home run of the 1969 season by Sports Investors and Resolution. The photo shows Jackson and Joe DiMaggio sitting the locker room at Fenway Park before the game with the following caption: (Original Caption) “Boston: Reggie Jackson (L) and Joe Dimaggio coach of the Oakland Athletics enjoy a light moment as Dimaggio gives some pointers to the league-leading slugger in the Oakland dressing room prior to their game with the Red Sox. It must have done some good, the game was won by the Athletics 13-5 with Jackson hitting his 23rd home run of the season, and a double and a triple.”

Jackson, in his early 20’s at the end of the 1960’s, made himself known to baseball fans across the country with an explosive 1969 campaign. The Arizona State product crushed 47 homers in 1969, adding 118 RBI, 36 doubles, and a .275 batting average for the 88-74 A’s. Jackson’s 47 roundtrippers would wind up as his career-best, with the former Cheltenham High School star also notching career-best marks in OBP (.410), slugging percentage (.608), walks (114), and runs (123) in 1969. While Jackson’s numbers in 1970 did not equal his 1969 output, the future Hall of Famer put together a solid season with 23 homers, 66 RBI, and 26 stolen bases for John McNamara’s 89-win ballclub.

This offered vest is a thrilling two-season garment, with Jackson’s number “9” and “A’s” sewn on the chest in Kelly green and yellow tackle twill. In 1969, the jersey would have had only an “A” on the left chest, with the current “A’s” patch added by the team for the 1970 season. “JACKSON” is sewn across the back shoulders in Kelly green tackle twill. The name was added for the 1970 season, as the A’s went with a blank-backed jersey in 1969. Additionally, the MLB 100th Anniversary patch worn in 1969 was removed when this jersey was used for the 1970 MLB season. A second “9” is sewn on the back of the jersey in Kelly green and yellow tackle twill. A McAuliffe tag, a “69” year tag, and a size “44” tag are sewn on the front left tail of this jersey. Jackson has signed the chest in blue marker, inscribing “H.O.F. 93” in addition to his signature. This jersey comes with a LOA from Beckett Authentication and a COA from Jackson (60829) for the signature, as well as a LOA from Sports Investors Authentication (190325B2), who have photo matched the jersey to images from both 1969 and 1970, as well as Jackson’s 1970 Topps #140 baseball card. Additionally, there is a LOA from Resolution Photomatching (426068), who have photo matched this jersey to the June 15th, 1969 game, along with other undated images from 1969 and likely matches to two additional 1970 Topps Cards.
