Former Major League first baseman Bob Robertson spent the majority of his career with the Pittsburgh Pirates where he broke into the league in 1967 and was with the club until 1976. Upon joining the Pirates, Robertson was a teammate of Hall of Famer Roberto Clemente. Clemente, considered the best Latin American player in baseball history, tragically passed away following the 1972 season when the plane he was riding in taking off from his native Puerto Rico and carrying relief aid to earthquake victims in Nicaragua, crashed in the Atlantic Ocean on December 31st, 1972 shortly after takeoff. Presented here is a game used Bob Robertson bat that has been dated to the 1969-72 seasons and signed by Roberto Clemente. Robertson’s Hillerich & Bradsby K55 model bat displays outstanding game use with a crack on the handle. There are ball marks on the barrel and a light coating of pine tar on the handle. The bat’s model number “K55” is stamped on the knob and Robertson’s number “7” is handwritten in black marker on the knob. Clemente signed his name in red marker on the barrel between the “Bob Robertson” facsimile stamp and the “Powerized” stamp. A wonderful late-career signature from Clemente on a game used bat.
