Cleon Jones had the best season of his career in 1969, leading the New York Mets to their first-ever World Series title while hitting for a titanic .340 average. This Mets Most Valuable Player Award from 1969 was presented to Cleon Jones by the Chrysler Plymouth Advertising Association of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut.
