Before the 1969 season began, the New York Mets had never finished higher than ninth place in the National League and never had a winning season when they entered as an expansion team in 1962. However, with the new Eastern and Western Division format, the Mets were placed in the Eastern Division and battled the Chicago Cubs for most of the year, and featured young stars like Tom Seaver and Nolan Ryan. Despite the upsurge in talent and results, the Mets were still 10 games out of first place on August 10th, trailing the Cubs. From that point, they would win 38 of their remaining 49 games to steamroll past the Cubs, finish the regular season with a 100-62 record and won the franchise’s first ever World Series victory with an upset win over the Baltimore Orioles.

23 members of the “Amazin’ Mets” have signed this Official American Lee MacPhail baseball in light blue pen. On the north panel, there are signatures of Ed Charles, Joe Pignatano, J.C. Martin, Rod Gaspar, ** and Ed Yost. The south panel has the signatures of Jim **, Don Clendenon, Bud Harrelson, Gary Gentry, Cal Koonce and Jerry Koosman, who signed this ball “Kooz”. The east panel has the autographs of Bobby Pfeil, **, Jack DiLauro, Tug McGraw and Ed Kranepool. The east panel has the signatures of Ron Taylor, **, Jim McAndrew, Wayne Garrett, Ron Swoboda and Art Shamsky. The ball displays toning and the stampings are faded but still readable, with the signatures clear. This multi-signed baseball comes with a full LOA from PSA/DNA (AB12554).
