The 1969 New York Mets stunned baseball not only by winning the World Series, but simply by finishing with a winning record. The Mets won 100 games in 1969, the first winning season in the history of the National League franchise. The Mets faced off in the Fall Classic against the heavily favored Baltimore Orioles of the American League. Although the Mets lost the first game, they defeated the Orioles in five games to give the franchise their first World Series victory.
