By 1970, Ernie Banks was wrapping up his Hall of Fame career with the Chicago Cubs, the only team he ever played for. Swinging this Hillerich & Bradsby S2 and others like it, Banks hit a combined 15 home runs in 1970 and 1971, which put him into the exclusive 500 Career Home Run Club. These were Banks’ last years as a full-time player, and Cubs skipper Leo Durocher tapped him to be a part-time coach, letting the future Hall of Famer inspire a new generation of ballplayers.

This offered Hillerich & Bradsby S2 model bat was used by Mr. Cub during his last two seasons in the Major League. This bat displays outstanding use and has a crack on the handle. There are numerous ball marks, stitch impressions and checking or grain swelling from repeated ball contact on the barrel. The upper handle and lower barrel has a light coating of pine tar. The knob has the model number “S2” stamped while Bank’s number “14” is hand written in black marker on the knob. Adding to this fine piece of lumber is Banks signing his name in bold blue marker on the barrel. This bat comes with a full LOA from PSA/DNA (1B15206) and has been graded a near-perfect GU 9.5 for the game use. There is also a COA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication (C99681) for Banks’ signature.
