By 1970 Willie Stargell was the leader of the Pittsburgh Pirates. “Pops,” as he was affectionately called, led by example, such as when he became just the third player in history to log five extra-base hits in one game in 1970. The next year the 32-year-old Stargell hit 48 home runs to edge out Hank Aaron for the NL home run crown, the first of two he would win in his career. Stargell helped lead the Pirates to a World Championship that fall and he finished a close second for the NL MVP Award.

This bat dates to Pop’s first home run crown and World Championship seasons of 1970-72. The Louisville Slugger K44 model shows outstanding use with many ball marks and scuffs on the barrel along with abrasions from contact with other equipment. The handle has a spiral of black adhesive tape and the lower handle has a wrap of white tape to enhance the grip and the Hall of Famer has signed the barrel three tims, twice in black marker and once in green marker. This bat comes with a from PSA/DNA (1B13714) and has been graded a near-perfect GU 9.5 for the game use and a LOA from PSA/DNA for the signature.
