Presented is a collection of First Day Covers with the signatures of political and sports figures, including President Jimmy Carter, President Gerald Ford, Joe Namath, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and others. The first item in this collection is a first day cover with the signature of President Ford, who has signed “Gerald R. Ford” in black marker on the front of the 3½ x 6½ -inch white envelope, which has a green ink illustration of Ford taking the oath of office as the 38th President of the United States. The 10-cent stamp has the postmark “Washington, D.C. Aug 9 1974”, the date Ford was sworn in as president. The second item in this collection is a commemorative first day cover signed in black ink by President Jimmy Carter. Carter has signed his name in the front center of the 3½ x 6½ -inch white envelope, to the right of a color illustration of the president and the caption “Inauguration 1977.” The 13-cent stamp is postmarked “Inauguration Day Plains, GA 31780 Jan 20 1977”.

The third item in this collection is a Gerald R. Ford signature in black pen on the front of a 3½ x 6½ -inch ivory envelope with “Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum” stamped in gold letters above a gold stamped foil seal for the “Ford Presidential Museum Dedication 1981”. The 18-cent stamp is postmarked “Gerald R. Ford Museum Dedication All-American City – 1949-1960-1981 Dedication Station Grand Rapids, MI 49501 Sep 18 1981.” The fourth item in this collection is a Kareem Abdul-Jabbar signature in black pen on the front of a 3½ x 6½ -inch white envelope commemorating the former Los Angeles Lakers NBA superstars career points record. The left front of the envelope has a reproduction color action photograph of Abdul-Jabbar shooting his famous “sky-hook” shot, with the legend “Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Points Record” bordering the photo. The 25-cent stamp is postmarked “Los Angeles, CA 90052 Apr 23 1989.”   

The fifth item in this collection is a Joe Namath signature in black pen on the front of a 3½ x 6½ -inch white envelope commemorating the former New York Jets quarterback’s career.  The left front of the envelope has a color montage of Namath in a white Jets uniform throwing a pass beside a head & shoulder portrait, with the caption “Joe Namath Hall of Famer”. The 22-cent stamp is postmarked “Pro Football Hall of Fame Philatelic Center Canton, Ohio 44711 Aug 3 1985”.  The sixth item in this collection is a Larry Bird signature in blue pen on a First Day cover for the Basketball Centennial 1991 postage stamp.  Bird has signed the front of a 3½ x 6½ -inch white envelope to the right of a reproduction color action photograph of Bird driving to the basket with the caption “Basketball 100th Anniversary.” The 29-cent stamp is postmarked “Springfield, MA 01101 Aug 28 1991 First Day of Issue”.  The seventh item in this collection is a Kathy Whitworth signature in blue pen on a 3½ x 6½ -inch white envelope with the 13-cent “Golf USA” commemorative postage stamp, postmarked “Augusta, GA 30901 Apr 7 1977 First Day of Issue”.  Throughout her playing career Whitworth won 88 LPGA Tour tournaments, more than anyone else has won on either the LPGA Tour or the PGA Tour. In 1981 she became the first woman to reach career earnings of $1 million on the LPGA Tour.

The eighth item in this collection is a Joe Montana signature in blue pen on a 3½ x 6½ -inch white envelope with a 25-cent “Montana 1889-1989” commemorative stamp. The stamp is postmarked “Super Bowl XXIV Super Bowl Station January 28, 1990 New Orleans, LA 70112”.  The left side of the envelope has a reproduction color action photograph of Joe Montana in his San Francisco 49ers uniform and the caption “1990 Super Bowl San Francisco”. The ninth item in this collection is an Emmitt Smith signature, in blue pen, on a 3½ x 6½ -inch white envelope. The envelope bears the postmark “Super Bowl XXX 1996 Station January 28th, 1996 Tempe, Arizona 85281” on a 32-cent stamp. The left side of the envelope has a reproduction photograph of Smith with the caption “1996 Super Bowl Dallas”. The 10th item in this collection is a Joe Montana signature in blue pen on a 3½ x 6½ -inch white envelope with a 25-cent stamp, postmarked “Super Bowl XXIV Super Bowl Station January 28, 1990 New Orleans, LA 70112”.  The left side of the envelope has a reproduction color action photograph of Joe Montana in his San Francisco 49ers uniform and the caption “1990 Super Bowl San Francisco”. The 11th item in this collection is a Troy Aikman signature in blue pen on a 3½ x 6½ -inch white envelope commemorating Super Bowl XXVII. The envelope bears a 29-cent stamp postmarked “NFL Experience Super Bowl Station 91103 Super Bowl XXVII Sunday, January 31, 1993 Rose Bowl Pasadena, California”. The left side of the enveloped has a reproduction action photograph of Aikman with the caption “1993 Super Bowl Dallas”.

The 12th item in this collection is a Troy Aikman signature in blue pen on a 3½ x 6½ -inch white envelope commemorating Super Bowl XXVII. The envelope bears a 29-cent stamp postmarked “NFL Experience Super Bowl Station 91103 Super Bowl XXVII Sunday, January 31, 1993 Rose Bowl Pasadena, California”. The left side of the enveloped has a reproduction action photograph of Aikman with the caption “1993 Super Bowl Dallas”. The 13th item in this collection is a Troy Aikman signature in blue pen on a 3½ x 6½ -inch white envelope commemorating Super Bowl XXVII. The envelope bears a 29-cent stamp postmarked “NFL Experience Super Bowl Station 91103 Super Bowl XXVII Sunday, January 31, 1993 Rose Bowl Pasadena, California”. The left side of the enveloped has a reproduction action photograph of Aikman with the caption “1993 Super Bowl Dallas”. The 14th item in this collection is a John Elway signature in blue pen on a 3½ x 6½ -inch white envelope commemorating Super Bowl XXIV. The envelope bears a 25-cent stamp, postmarked “Super Bowl XXIV Super Bowl Station January 28, 1990 New Orleans, LA 70112”.  The left side of the envelope has a reproduction color action photograph of Elway in his Denver Broncos uniform and the caption “1990 Super Bowl Denver”.

The 15th item in this collection is a Dan Marino signature in blue pen on a 3½ x 6½ -inch white envelope commemorating Super Bowl XIX. The envelope bears a 20-cent stamp, postmarked “Stanford Stadium Super Bowl XIX Jan 20 1985 Super Bowl XIX Station Palo Alto, CA 94305”. The left side of the envelope has a reproduction color action photograph of Marino in his Miami Dolphins uniform with the caption “1985 Super Bowl Dolphins”. The 16th item in this collection is a Jerry Rice signature in blue pen on a 3½ x 6½ -inch white envelope commemorating Super Bowl XXIV. The envelope bears a 25-cent stamp, postmarked “Super Bowl XXIV Super Bowl Station January 28, 1990 New Orleans, LA 70112”.  The left side of the envelope has an illustration of the New Orleans Superdome and the logo of Super Bowl XXIV with the caption “1990 Super Bowl Superdome”. The 17th item in this collection is a Jerry Rice signature in blue pen on a 3½ x 6½ -inch white envelope commemorating the San Francisco 49ers wide receiver’s career. The envelope bears a 32-cent stamp postmarked “San Francisco, CA 94188 Dec 15 1997”. The left side of the envelope has a reproduction color action photograph of Rice with the caption “Jerry Rice 1,000 Points”.

The 18th item in this collection is a Phil Simms signature in blue pen on a 3½ x 6½ -inch white envelope commemorating Super Bowl XXI. The 22-cent stamp is postmarked “Super Bowl XXI Super Bowl Station January 25, 1987 Pasadena, CA 91108”. The left side of the envelope has a reproduction color action photograph of Sims in his New York Giants uniform captioned “1987 Super Bowl New York”. The 19th item in this collection is a Joe Montana signature in blue pen on a 3½ x 6½ -inch white envelope commemorating Super Bowl XIX. The envelope bears a 20-cent stamp, postmarked “Stanford Stadium Super Bowl XIX Jan 20 1985 Super Bowl XIX Station Palo Alto, CA 94305”. The left side of the envelope has a reproduction color action photograph of Montana in his San Francisco 49ers uniform captioned “1985 Super Bowl 49ers”. The 20th item in this collection is a Vince Ferragamo signature in blue pen on a 3½ x 6½ -inch white envelope. The envelope bears a 15-cent stamp postmarked “Pasadena, CA USPO Jan 20 1980”. The left side of the envelope has a reproduction action photograph of Ferragamo in his Los Angeles Ram uniform, captioned “Super Bowl Rams”. The 21st item in this collection is a Doak Walker signature in blue pen on a 3½ x 6½ -inch white envelope celebrating his football career.  The envelope bears a 22-cent stamp postmarked “Pro Football Hall of Fame Philatelic Center Canton, Ohio 44711 Aug 2 1986”. The left side of the envelope has a color montage illustrating Walker’s football career with the caption “Doak Walker Hall of Famer”.

The 22nd item in this collection is an Eddie Robinson signature in blue pen on a 3½ x 6½ -inch white envelope commemorating his college football coaching career. The envelope bears a 22-cent stamp postmarked “Dallas, TX 75260 Oct 5 1985”. The left side of the envelope has a reproduction color photograph of Robinson in a suit and tie on the sidelines, captioned “Eddie Robinson Winningest Coach”. The 23rd item in this collection is a John Wooden signature in blue pen on a 3½ x 6½ -inch white First Day Cover for the 29-cent “Basketball Centennial 1991” stamp. The stamp bears the postmark “Springfield, MA 01101 Aug 28 1991 First Day of Issue”. The left side of the envelope has a portrait illustration of Wooden over a basketball hoop, captioned “100th Anniversary Basketball”. This entire lot has been pre-certified by Beckett Authentication.
