1970 saw Fergie Jenkins record the 4th in a string of six seasons of 20 or more wins. Dispelling the myth that Wrigley Field is a “hitter’s ballpark,” Jenkins would win 22 games that summer and lead the league with 24 complete games, three of them shutouts. Although it wasn’t a stat back in 1970, modern statisticians have credited Fergie with a league-leading WHIP of 1.038 as well. Despite Jenkins’ heroic numbers, the Cubs failed to repeat as the NL West leaders, finishing five games behind the Pirates.

This classic Cubs jersey was donned by the Hall of Famer during his road games in 1970. The gray flannel has “CHICAGO” across the chest in Cubbie Blue felt with his number “31” sewn below. The collar has a gray strip tag embroidered with “31-70-2-44” in blue. The Wilson size 44 label is sewn in the lower left front tail with “1970” chain stitched below in blue. The front placket has its seven original buttons present and a Cubs mascot patch is sewn on the left sleeve. The back has Fergie’s feared number “31” in blue felt. The Cubs great has signed the jersey twice in strong blue marker, the first inside the collar along with the inscription “To Barrie All the Best” and again on the left front of the jersey between the city name and his shoulder. One would be hard-pressed to find a finer Fergie Jenkins signed gamer than this one. The jersey comes with an LOA from MEARS for the game use and has been graded a near-perfect A9.5, plus an additional LOA from JSA for the signatures.
