Presented is a 1970 Tom Gola Jewish Basketball League Alumni Man of the Year Award presented to the Philadelphia basketball legend. The 2 x 20 x 20-inch shield-shaped brown wood plaque features a 5 x 7-inch black & white head & shoulder photograph of Gola in a Philadelphia Warriors uniform displayed in a 7 x 9-inch white plastic frame mounted at the lower center of the plaque. Mounted at the top center of the plaque is a 7 x 9-inch silver metal plaque engraved in black with the legend “Jewish Basketball League Alumni Man of the Year Award “Another Gola Goal” for his contribution to basketball as a High School and College All-American, an NBA All-Star with the Philadelphia Warriors, and as a Coach at La Salle College Presented May 18, 1970”. Nicknamed "Mr. All-Around" by Hall of Fame coach Ken Loeffler, Tom Gola was a Philadelphia folk hero. Gola's angular build, which enabled him to play every offensive and defensive position on the court, made him an instant star. While an offensive whiz, Gola's quick hands and deceptive speed made him a defensive stalwart. A celebrity at Philadelphia's La Salle High School, Gola spurned hundreds of collegiate scholarship offers from across the country to play locally at LaSalle University. Gola, the first modern, four-time college All-America, was named the 1955 College Player of the Year. Often considered one of the greatest college players ever, he was the first player in collegiate history to score over 2,000 points and grab over 2,000 rebounds. Upon enshrinement, he was the NCAA's all-time leading rebounder. Gola enjoyed a ten-year NBA career with the Philadelphia Warriors, San Francisco Warriors, and New York Knicks.
