Abdul Salaam was a key member of the famed “New York Sack Exchange” defensive line of the New York Jets during the late 1970’s and early 1980’s, and the first member of the legendary crew to join the team. Alongside Mark Gastineau, Joe Klecko, and Marty Lyons, Salaam harangued opposing quarterbacks in the pre-sack era. Because of this, Salaam’s career numbers do not tell the whole story of his career, as the powerful defensive tackle frequently engulfed two blockers and opened holes for his fellow lineman. In 1981, when the New York Sack Exchange was at the height of its power, Salaam recorded seven sacks while helping Klecko rack up 20.5 quarterback sacks and Gastineau 20 of his own.
This green home jersey has Salaam’s number “74” screen printed on the chest and back in white numerals and on the sleeves in green. “SALAAM” is screen printed in white text across the back shoulders over a matching green nameplate. The sleeves of this jersey are green and white, and a Champion size “XXL” tag is sewn on the front left tail of the jersey. A buttoned crotch strap is attached to the tail of the jersey. This item comes with a LOA from Abdul Salaam.
